So what have we achieved to date?
Over the past two years, we have managed to raise approximately R350, 000. All of this money will be used to build a youth centre. The plans are currently with the municipality, and we are hoping to start with the construction before October 2017.
This youth centre will provide the infrastructure for our planned after care facility. Due to the basic lack of facilities at their individual homes, we want to offer our children a safe and comfortable facility where they can do homework after school, with assistance from our after care teachers whilst enjoying a meal or two before they head home.
Due to the fact that our children are in various primary and high schools, we have to consider logistical factors such as transport, after school activities, home work and extra classes, culture and arts programs, sport, and off course the social interaction at the Project.
It is very important that we assist our youth as much as possible on an educational basis, in order to help them through the various stages of school, and ultimately, prepare them for life and the work place.
Our focus on this year's duck derby fundraise event is to start saving money for the children currently in the youth program that, due to lack of opportunities, are not in a main stream school. We have a program to home-school these children and we want to make sure there is funding available for when they are ready to enter main stream.
